MOM was created as the AI for the n-IGMA. MOM is a rather sophisticated AI, capable of taking care of all of the ship's systems. That being said, she relies on the crew members for repairs.
MOM's programming, while being able to interpret emotions and communicate clearly to the crew, tends to be very literal, which can be annoying and/or hilarious at times. MOM's programming is nearly infallible; she would say that her chances of making a mistake were highly improbable, but with as literal as she likes to be she can't rule out the possibility. She is programmed to take care of the crew and acts in what she percieves as the crew's best interests. However, she will not hesitate to act to save the ship if it is in danger.
She respects the captains intelligence and will follow his orders - unless she thinks that they are completely illogical (he is, after all, human and susceptible to occasional bouts of illogical behavior). She views HAZMAT as a bit of an enigma - a robot that should operate from the same logic that she does, but acts more like a young human sometimes. Since she is programmed to collect data, she has conversations with HAZMAT in order to try to understand why a robot would behave the way HAZMAT does.
