Tatyana was born on Mukeshi 9, a poor colony in the outer rim that turned lawless when the original colony government was overthrown by gangs. In order to survive on such a harsh world, Tatyana taught herself to read, write and do math and managed use those skills to get work with the Space Razorz, one of the local gangs. During her time with the Space Razorz, she worked in the drug lab and was responsible for weighing out correct quantities, and keeping track of the inventory as well as the money.
She was harassed and abused by the gang members, but she knew the alternative so she would put up with it to a degree. Naturally smart and cunning, she would use whatever means she could to keep herself isolated from the worst of the gang members. Her methods, however, did not stop the leader from harassing her on occasion. For a time, she managed to convince the leader that it was in his best interests to leave her alone so that she could do her job. It worked for a while, but the leader's advances were becoming more frequent and more forceful.
It was during one such incident that the Dark Flame Pirates blasted into the Space Razorz facility. The DFP took on a job from the Star Killers. Their mission was to completely wipe out the Space Razorz, a gang that was gaining power and becoming a threat. Knowing that he was going to wipe out the pirates anyway, Little John decided to have a little fun. Seeing an opportunity to mess with the leader, Little John told the leader that he should stop abusing Tatyana because it "Wasn't very gentlemanlike". After toying with the man by first scaring him and then letting him relax, Little John proceeds to blow his head off.
Tatyana, realized that she was being 'saved' but that she would be out of work, attempts to trade the information with Little John for safe passage off of Mukeshi 9. Little John said he would consider the request, based on the usefulness of the information. She describes, in perfect detail, the sum of the gang's assets, and their remaining forces.
Little John, realizing her value, convinces her to join the DFP. Tatyana, knowing only her horrible life on the planet, views this as the best offer she has and is easily persuaded by Little John.
Prone to nonviolence, she often tries to come up with methods that the DFP can use to complete their objective as bloodlessly as possible. She attempts to work with Vortex to come up with ideas for defensive shields, and technology that would disable ships. She has the uncanny ability to pick up any skill that she has an interest in, and as such has learned how to pilot a starship. When she does fly in combat, she fights defensively; only killing when necessary. She prefers to stun her enemies and leave them floating in space where they can (hopefully) be rescued.
When she is not working, she uses the ships resources to satisfy her insatiable desire for knowledge. Little John encourages her to do that; her growing wealth of knowledge has helped the pirates accomplish a mission on occasion.
She respects Little John as her employer and savior. Little John acts like a perfect gentleman around her and treats her very well because he wants to keep her in his employ as long as possible.
Vortex and Tatyana have an understanding - she supplies some ideas for defensive shields and weaponry to Vortex. If Vortex finds them interesting, he tries to implement those ideas. While they do have that understanding, Vortex is constantly hitting on her which can get annoying at times.
She really doesn't understand Flytrap, but she has a "very good filter" so he doesn't bother her.
Due to her nonviolent personality, her and Kronk do not get along very well. She will attempt to manipulate Kronk if he attempts to get in the way of one of her ideas for a nonviolent resolution.
